Ready Player One - Ernest Cline This book was so hyped up it wasn't even funny.
The writing is flat and it's really hard to immerse yourself in. And, worse, there didn't seem to be much of a point to the story. The only thing anyone cared about was this video game, which, considering that state of the real world, was a waste of their time. The plot was, to put it bluntly, highly implausible. The characters were all annoying, and there just wasn't any substance or meaning to the story.
Most of the novels appeal comes from it's 80's pop-culture referencing, unfortunately, that also seems to be the only reason the novel was written. To reference the 80's.
